Back Pain Physiotherapy

Your back shouldn't control your day.

Back pain is one of the most common reasons women seek care, from desk-work posture and lifting at home, to disc problems, postpartum changes and degenerative wear. It makes ordinary movement feel difficult.

At Munaza Physio Studio, treatment begins by understanding how your pain affects your movement, strength, posture and daily life, then targets the root cause, not just the symptom.

Dr. Munaza Ghani · Women-only physiotherapy

Back pain care, designed aroundwomen.

Scroll to see how a visit unfolds: a private women-only space, a proper assessment, hands-on care with movement, and a plan that keeps you moving.

01A private, women-only space

Treated by a woman, in a space built for you.

Dr. Munaza Ghani treats women only, in the clinic or at your home, so you can explain your pain, dress comfortably and ask anything without hesitation.

02Assessment first

We find where the pain really comes from.

A full history, movement and nerve screening, and a look at the load from your posture, work and home. We separate a recent strain from pain that has become over-sensitive, because each needs a different plan.

03Hands-on care and movement

Calm it down, then rebuild it.

Gentle manual therapy and soft-tissue work settle symptoms first. Then graded mobility, stretching and strengthening retrain your back to tolerate everyday life.

04Back to your life

A plan you can keep doing.

You leave each visit with a short home programme, clear limits for flare-ups and a review date, so progress continues between sessions.

What we treat

Is Back Pain Stopping You From Living Fully?

These are the most common causes we assess and treat.

A woman in a red hijab slouched forward at a desk and laptop, with her lower spine glowing red where it is being overloaded
01

Poor Posture & Prolonged Sitting

Sustained loading of spinal structures leading to stiffness and aching.

A woman in a red hijab bending with straight knees to lift a heavy sack, with her lower back strained
02

Improper Lifting Techniques

Sudden strain on the lumbar spine from bending and twisting under load.

03

Degenerative Disc Disease

Age-related disc changes reducing shock absorption between vertebrae.

04

Herniated or Bulging Discs

Disc material pressing on nerve roots, often causing radiating leg pain.

05

Spinal Stenosis

Narrowing of the spinal canal producing pain and heaviness on walking.

06

Arthritis & Osteoporosis

Joint inflammation and reduced bone density affecting spinal support.

07

Muscle Imbalances & Weakness

Weak deep core muscles leaving the spine poorly supported.

08

Previous Injuries

Old injuries that healed with compensations and altered movement patterns.

Why does it hurt

Eight roots.One assessment finds yours.

C·01

Poor posture & prolonged sitting

Sustained slumped alignment increases pressure inside discs and strains posterior spinal ligaments.

Mechanical load
C·02

Improper lifting

Lifting with a rounded back plus rotation creates shear forces on the disc wall, the primary mechanism behind strains and herniation.

Flexion + rotation
C·03

Degenerative disc changes

Discs lose hydration and height over time, causing segmental instability and stiffness.

Degeneration
C·04

Herniated or bulging discs

Displaced disc material can compress nerve roots, causing sciatica or sensory changes, often after sudden flexion-rotation movements.

Radiculopathy
C·05

Spinal stenosis

Narrowing of the spinal canal causes leg pain on standing or walking that eases with bending forward.

Neurogenic claudication
C·06

Arthritis & osteoporosis

Facet joint degeneration causes inflammatory back pain; reduced bone density increases fracture susceptibility.

Bone & joint
C·07

Muscle imbalance & weakness

Weak abdominals and glutes with tight hip flexors overload the lumbar spine. Postpartum abdominal separation compounds it.

Lower crossed syndrome
C·08

Previous injuries, incomplete rehab

Old trauma that never fully rehabilitated leaves scar tissue and altered motor control, a quiet driver of chronic recurrence.

Motor control

SCROLL FOR THE ASSESSMENT TO FIND YOUR ROOT CAUSE

Understand it

Acute, chronic, and why it keeps comingback.

How long your back has hurt matters less than what your nervous system is doing. Knowing which kind of pain you have shapes what we do and what to expect.

How it may feel

  • A sudden sharp catch that settles over days or weeks
  • A dull ache that lingers long after the original strain
  • Pain that returns whenever you bend, lift or sit for long
  • Pain that seems out of proportion to the movement

Common causes

  • A strain aggravated again before it has healed
  • A nervous system that stays on guard after the tissue has healed
  • Poor sleep, stress, low mood or worry turning the volume up
  • Fear of movement, which keeps the back sensitive and weak

How physio helps

  • Learning how pain works: hurt does not always mean harm
  • Graded exposure to the movements you avoid, in small safe steps
  • Regular walking and strengthening, not only rest or passive treatment
  • Sleep, stress and breathing support alongside the exercises

How back pain can change

  1. 01Acute: under about 12 weeks

Pain starts suddenly and settles as tissue heals. If you keep aggravating it, it can return again and again.

  2. 02Recurring is not always chronic

Pain that keeps coming back is often the same acute pain being re-triggered. Changing what triggers it usually helps.

  3. 03Chronic: beyond about 12 weeks

The tissue has healed, but the nervous system may still guard the area. Pain can be real without ongoing damage.

  4. 04Retrain it

Education, graded movement and strength gradually calm the alarm and rebuild trust in your back.

TipIf your symptoms have not improved after several weeks of consistent rehabilitation, that is the moment to review the contributing factors with your physiotherapist.

See a doctor urgently if you have

  • Loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness around the saddle area
  • Weakness in a leg or foot that is getting worse
  • Back pain after a significant fall or accident
  • Fever, unexplained weight loss or constant night pain

How we treat it

Passive to settle,active to last.

Hands-on and soft-tissue work help calm pain early; movement, strengthening and walking create the lasting change. Your physiotherapist chooses and doses each one for you.

013 moves

Settle the pain

  • Soft-tissue releaseFirm but comfortable pressure on tender muscles. It should feel like a good ache, never sharp, travelling or tingling. The effect is temporary, so we pair it with movement.1–2 min per spot
  • Joint mobilisationA therapist gently oscillates stiff spinal joints to ease pain and improve movement, alongside your exercise plan.In clinic
  • Breathing and relaxationSlow diaphragmatic or box breathing (in for 4, hold 4, out 4, hold 4) calms the stress response that can amplify back pain.3 or more rounds
023 moves

Restore movement

  • StretchingMove to the edge of comfort, breathe out and ease a little further. Stop before pain: you are teaching your nerves to tolerate stretch.2–3 sets of 15–30 s
  • Contract–relax stretchingGently tense the muscle for five to seven seconds, relax, then hold the stretch for 10 to 15 seconds.2–4 repeats
  • Mobility and nerve glidingSlow, full-range joint movements, and gentle nerve glides when there is leg tingling, with symptoms no worse afterwards.Slow, controlled reps
032 moves

Build resilience

  • Graded strengtheningGradually heavier loads, kept below the level that flares symptoms, build strength and teach the nervous system that loading is safe.Progressed weekly
  • Walking and aerobic exerciseSteady activity improves blood flow and calms sensitivity. Start with comfortable walking and build up.20–30 min most days

Mild discomfort during exercise is acceptable if your usual symptoms are no worse a few hours later. If you flare up, reduce the load or step back a stage and tell us. These are general examples, not a personal prescription.

Back health is movement

Don't just manage the pain. Understand it.

The goal is not to promise an instant cure. The goal is a clearer path toward comfortable, confident movement: relief now, strength for later, confidence that lasts.

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?+

No referral is needed. You can book directly and we’ll assess you at your first session.

Will the treatment hurt?+

Treatment is gentle and comfort-led. Some techniques cause mild temporary soreness, and we always work within your comfort limits.

How many sessions will I need?+

It depends on severity and how long you've had symptoms. Most back pain patients notice improvement within 3–6 sessions; your plan is set after assessment.

What does it cost?+

Starts from PKR 1,500 for a clinic session. Home visit pricing depends on your location and condition, contact us for a quote.

Is this a women-only practice?+

Yes. Dr. Munaza is a female physiotherapist and the practice is dedicated to women, in a private and culturally sensitive environment.

Do I need a scan for my back pain?+

Usually not at first. Most back pain is understood from your history and a physical examination, and findings such as disc bulges are common even in people with no pain. We refer you for imaging only when your symptoms or examination suggest it is needed.

Is exercise good for back pain?+

In most cases, yes. Gradual, guided movement and strengthening reduce pain and help stop it coming back, and gentle walking is often a good place to start. We tailor the type and amount to you, so mild discomfort is acceptable but a flare-up is avoided.

How should I sleep with back pain?+

There is no single perfect position. Many people are comfortable on their side with a pillow between the knees, or on their back with a pillow under the knees. Change position often and use whatever lets you settle; we can advise on your own set-up.

Safety first
