Planning a return to exercise
Running, gym, sport or fitness classes, and wanting to know you’re actually ready.

A Mummy MOT is a comprehensive postnatal physiotherapy assessment — checking your core, pelvic floor, posture and any abdominal separation before you return to exercise. Most women return to activity without ever having this checked. It changes what "ready" actually means.
The short answer
It is a single, structured postnatal assessment covering the areas childbirth affects most: the deep core and any abdominal separation, pelvic floor function, posture and breathing pattern, and any specific aches or weaknesses from pregnancy or delivery. Most women are cleared for "normal activity" at a routine postnatal check without any of this actually being examined. A Mummy MOT fills that gap — you leave with a clear picture of where you are and a specific plan, not a generic go-ahead.
Understanding it
A standard postnatal check confirms your body is healing safely — wound checked, bleeding settled, blood pressure normal. It is not designed to assess whether your deep core and pelvic floor are actually ready for running, lifting your toddler, or a full gym session. Those are physiotherapy questions, not general medical ones.
Many women return to high-impact exercise assuming "cleared" means "recovered," and only notice a problem — leaking, a dragging sensation, back pain — once they’re already back at full intensity. A Mummy MOT checks the specific things that predict whether that return will go well, before you find out the hard way.
This applies whether your delivery was vaginal or by C-section, and whether it was your first baby or your fourth — each pregnancy changes your body’s baseline, and a Mummy MOT is assessed against where you are now, not a generic postnatal timeline.

Who this is for
A Mummy MOT is preventative as much as it is diagnostic. That said, these are common reasons women book one specifically.
Running, gym, sport or fitness classes, and wanting to know you’re actually ready.
Leaking, heaviness, back pain or a visible ab gap you haven’t had properly assessed.
Months or years postnatal, with no prior assessment — it’s never too late.
Instrumental birth, a large tear, or a C-section, and wanting a specific check.
Your body’s baseline has changed, and previous assumptions may not hold.
Wanting confirmation everything is functioning well before pushing your training further.
Even with no symptoms at all, a Mummy MOT gives you a genuine baseline — many women are surprised by what it finds either way.
What’s included
A Mummy MOT is a single, thorough assessment rather than a course of treatment — though it often leads into one if something specific needs addressing.
Delivery type, any complications, current symptoms, and what you’re hoping to return to.
Measuring any abdominal separation and assessing how your deep core functions under load.
Strength, tension and coordination of the pelvic floor, alongside posture and breathing pattern — internal assessment only with your specific consent, external options always available.
A clear explanation of what we found, and specific next steps — whether that’s a green light to progress, or a short course of treatment first.
Your session
Your Mummy MOT is one-to-one with a female physiotherapist in a private, women-only studio. It typically takes around an hour, start to finish.
You leave with a clear, honest picture — not a generic pass — and a specific plan for whatever you’re returning to.
The most accurate way to check pelvic floor function, but never mandatory. External-only assessment is always available if you prefer.
If something needs addressing before you return to your planned activity, we tell you clearly rather than clearing you regardless.
Anything outside physiotherapy’s scope is referred to the right colleague rather than addressed here regardless.
Before you book
Most women book from around six weeks postnatal, once initial healing has settled, though there’s no strict cut-off — some come sooner with specific concerns, and it remains useful years later too.
The assessment covers scar tissue and healing alongside the same core, pelvic floor and posture checks. Tell us your delivery type when you book so the session is tailored appropriately.
That’s a completely valid reason to book. A Mummy MOT is useful whether you’re training for something specific or simply want to know your body is functioning well.
It gives the most accurate picture of pelvic floor function, and is offered, but never mandatory. You can request external-only assessment throughout and still get a useful result.
We explain exactly what we found and what it means, then agree a plan together — sometimes a short course of specific treatment, sometimes just guidance on how to progress safely.
Many women only need the one session plus their home guidance. If your assessment shows something that benefits from ongoing treatment, we’ll say so clearly and explain why.
The studio is a private, home-based space in Hasham Street, Karim Block, Allama Iqbal Town, Lahore. We share exact directions after booking, so your visit stays discreet.
Your next step
You do not need a specific problem to book a Mummy MOT — wanting a clear picture before you return to activity is reason enough. Tell us where you are, and we will tell you honestly what to expect.
